From Negril Beach Village to Hedonism II and the Naked Truth

I have posted this before, but I thought it was worth repeating.

History of Negril and Hedonism II

Below is a excert from the Lonely Planet about Negril. Hard to believe that Hedonism II has been open that long. We have clients that have been to the resort over 100 times as well as the original owners of Go Classy Tours.

From the LONEY PLANET

Only in 1959 was a road cut to Negril, launching the development of what was then a tiny fishing village. Electricity and telephones came later. The sleepy beachfront village soon became a popular holiday spot for Jamaicans. About the same time, hippies and backpackers from abroad began to appear. They roomed with local families or slept on the beach, partook of ganja and magic mushrooms, and generally gave Negril its laid-back reputation. In 1977 the first major resort – Negril Beach Village (later renamed Hedonism II) – opened its doors to a relatively affluent crowd seeking an uninhibited Club Med–style vacation. Tales of Hedonism’s toga parties and midnight nude volleyball games helped launch Negril to fame. By the mid-1980s Negril was in the throes of a full-scale tourism boom that continues today. (The early days of tourism in Negril are regaled in Banana Shout, a humorous novel by local hotelier Mark Conklin concerning the escapades of an American draft dodger who moves to Negril.)

  1. While we have managed to visit Couple several times, I still haven't figured out how to convince my sweetie to try some of the other resorts that Go Classy offers.

I've passed on some great offers because she was still a little unsure.

I'm hoping that by reading some of these comments we will get a better sense of waht it's like.

  2. Heh folks, We've been repeating at HedoII for the past 18 years and have a couple of insights.
    1. The air conditioning will never work in "H" block. We changed rooms 3 times last month - and finally gave up trying to find one where the air worked. - same for the past 10 years -
    2. The food quality changes radically based on which group is at the facility. ( we were recently in attendance both before and during the "fluffernutters" ( spelling? ) "before" the food was chicken and rice - "during" it was steak and lobster... ( book during a group ! )
-- oh also - during the group, the place WAS all nude - I guess thats cuz they booked the whole place....
Soooo, find out what groups are in attendance during your stay - and research them - the whole tone of the place changes with various groups - both for better and for worse!
